Why Choose the Dominican Republic for a Golf Trip? 5 Reasons That Make It Irresistible
As Golf Manager at Wegolf, I am often asked about different golf destinations around the world. People ask me for suggestions on where to go play golf, whether with groups of friends or with family. You might imagine that I always answer “Scotland”, my favorite place in the world to play golf. But no. One of the destinations I recommend the most for a golf trip is the Dominican Republic.
Corales Golf Course. A group of 22 Wegolfers from Argentina on a 2022 trip.
In fact, I was the first to be surprised by this destination the first time it was suggested to me. At that moment, I asked the same questions I get asked now: ¿Are there good golf courses in the Dominican Republic? ¿Are there good hotels in the Dominican Republic? ¿How much does a golf trip to the Dominican Republic cost? ¿Is the weather good for playing golf? ¿What else is there to do besides golf?
Below, I will answer these questions based on my experience after visiting this destination more than five times:
1. ¿Are there good golf courses in the Dominican Republic?
The answer is clear: yes, there are excellent golf courses. And in Punta Cana specifically, there are some outstanding ones. One I love is Corales Golf Course. Designed by Tom Fazio, it is a challenging yet very playable course. It is featured every year on the PGA Tour calendar during the Corales Punta Cana Championship. There are also two fantastic courses designed by Pete Dye: Teeth of the Dog and Dye Fore, both located within Casa de Campo Resort (which also includes a third course by Dye called The Links). There is also Punta Espada Golf Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, with spectacular views and impeccable maintenance year-round. To complete the list, Punta Cana also offers the 27 holes of La Cana Golf Course, Iberostar Bávaro Golf Club, and Hard Rock Golf Club Cana Bay.

2. ¿Are there good hotels in the Dominican Republic?
Another key factor that makes this destination very attractive is the presence of several luxury resorts, many of which offer an “all inclusive” experience. It is very convenient, and the food is abundant and of high quality. Resorts typically offer different categories, making them suitable for a wide range of budgets. The same resort can have both a standard and a luxury category. Among them all, the best golf resort in the Caribbean is undoubtedly Casa de Campo, in La Romana. It is a world-class resort in terms of service, location, and infrastructure. In the Punta Cana area, you will also find a wide variety of excellent resorts.

3. ¿How much does a golf trip to the Dominican Republic cost?
The Dominican Republic offers a wide range of accommodations and golf courses, allowing for itineraries that fit different budgets. You can play top-tier courses and stay in luxury hotels, or enjoy very good courses with more affordable lodging. In general, prices are very competitive, depending on the number of rounds, dates, and accommodation chosen. A 4-round golf trip starts at around USD 1,900. This is especially attractive compared to golf trips to Europe or the USA. Airfare is also usually more affordable. Of course, there are high seasons, such as year-end, but packages including accommodation, tee times, and transfers can still be significantly cheaper than other golf destinations.
4. ¿Is the weather good for playing golf in the Dominican Republic?
One of the main attractions of this destination is undoubtedly its white sand beaches and turquoise waters, framed by palm trees. They look like images generated by artificial intelligence—but they are real. Miles of white sand beaches, clear warm water, and few waves (perfect for children)… truly stunning views, both from the resorts and the golf courses.

5. ¿What else is there to do in the Dominican Republic besides golf?
As with any destination and any trip we organize, the weather is a key factor. Punta Cana is excellent in this regard: it is sunny and warm all year round. What more could we ask for? You can enjoy golf and then (or before) relax at the beach or the resort pools, have a cold drink, and not worry about needing warm clothing. There may be slightly rainier periods, but they are usually short showers lasting just a few minutes before the sun returns.
As you can see, Punta Cana is a fantastic destination for a golf trip, and also for a golf & vacation experience. It suits different budgets and is ideal for family trips—while one person plays golf, others can enjoy the beach, pools, or excursions. It is also a great option for trips with friends. The all-inclusive format makes everything easy, with no need to worry about meals, as everyone can choose what they want.
It is also a great option at any time of the year, fitting easily into everyone’s schedule.
So don’t wait any longer and start planning your golf trip to Punta Cana today!
