The Open 151: From the Inside
*By Nicolás Iorio, President of Wegolf. Nicolás was in charge of coordinating the trip to Liverpool for 50 people.
In the year that the great Roberto de Vicenzo would have turned 100, returning to the place where he made history in 1967 was already moving. To make it even more interesting, we were accompanied by a group of nearly 50 people from all over Latin America, and on the day we arrived in Liverpool, Rory McIlroy was lifting the Scottish Open trophy just 4 hours away.

We took the risk of booking 15 months in advance to ensure an unforgettable experience, which we named the "Liverpool Invitational".
Our clients enjoyed a 9-day trip in one of the city's best hotels. We attended Tuesday's practice, Friday's cut, and Sunday's final. In between, we played a 72-hole tournament at the area's best courses: Formby GC, Hillside GC, and famous Open venues: Royal Birkdale and Royal Lytham & St. Annes.

The excellence with which the R&A organizes The Open is hard to describe. It is a battalion of thousands of people working for a year for a 7-day event. The atmosphere is unique, and the British passion for golf is so great that The Open is a family celebration. The whole city knows who is leading and who succumbed to the pressure.
This edition was special because we had several Latinos participating: Abraham Ancer, Joaquín Niemann, Mateo Fernández de Oliveira, and Emiliano Grillo, who finished T6 after an incredible performance.
What did we see at Royal Liverpool?
A course presented in excellent condition, with a redesigned par-3 17th hole (the 15th for members) that created immense pressure. The facilities were unprecedented, with multi-story hospitality buildings constructed for just one week.
Rory McIlroy, a chapter apart
I have seen Tiger Woods live, been to The Players and The Masters, but I have never seen anything like the crowd Rory generates among the British. He had over ten thousand people following him at all times. Poor Emiliano Grillo had to share that environment, and he did it so well!
The Open is unique. It is returning to the roots, to the links, where the game began. It is a trip every golfer should take at least once. For that reason, we have already reserved spots for 2024 at Royal Troon.
