The Players, a unique experience
Often called the fifth Major, The Players is the best-prepared tournament for spectators. In 2021, we traveled with 40 Wegolfers who enjoyed a unique Players with a limited crowd.
Attending a PGA Tour tournament is an unforgettable experience for any fan of our beloved sport, but without a doubt, going to The Players is even more special. In the golf world, it is considered the fifth Major and the players themselves treat it as such. It is not just another event on the calendar. It probably has the best field of the year (including the Majors). The course preparation is immaculate, bordering on perfection. It also has one of the most spectacular finishes in the world of golf with holes 16, 17, and 18 of the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course.
In 2021, we had the chance to go with a group of 40 Wegolfers to one of the most special editions in the nearly 50-year history of the championship. With a limited crowd of less than 20 percent of its usual capacity, spectators were able to enjoy a much more exclusive tournament, seeing the PGA Tour professionals from even closer.
The Players is the best-prepared tournament for the general public, even better than any of the four Majors. It is the only tournament on the calendar entirely organized by the PGA Tour. No loose ends are left. There are many more volunteers and marshals than at any other event, and they are ready to help with questions spectators might have about a player, hole, or any other doubt.
The Stadium Course was created for The Players. When then-PGA Tour Commissioner Deane Beman asked Pete Dye to design this course, he told him to do it with a major championship in mind, and therefore, with large crowds in mind. And so it was.

Unlike many modern courses that host major championships (such as Whistling Straits, Kiawah Island, Chambers Bay, or Erin Hills), at TPC Sawgrass, the spectator does not have to walk much to follow the players. For example, from the 5th green, one can walk just a few steps to the 6th tee, 7th green, 8th green, and the fairway of the par-5 9th.
In last year’s edition, the clients who traveled with Wegolf were able to enjoy watching their compatriots play. The more than 30 Chileans who traveled with Wegolf followed Joaquin Niemann’s participation with great anticipation—one of the great stars of the PGA Tour over the last two years. Joaco had the kindness to take photos, sign autographs, and speak with the Wegolfers from his country after his rounds.

The clients attended The Players on Friday and Sunday. They experienced a thrilling finish with Justin Thomas’s charge over the weekend after shooting 64 on Saturday and 68 in the final round.
The Players week didn’t end with the championship. On Saturday (while the third round was being played at TPC Sawgrass), they went to St. Johns Country Club for the first round of the internal Wegolfers tournament. Then they played on Monday at King & Bear, the only golf course co-designed by Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. The following day they went to Slammer & Squire, located next to the World Golf Hall of Fame. Both King & Bear and Slammer & Squire are part of the World Golf Village complex.

The fourth and final round was played at Palencia Club, a fabulous private club with a truly challenging golf course. After the round, clients enjoyed a cocktail party and the awards ceremony for the tournament winners, along with daily prizes.
Despite the difficulties of traveling in a pandemic context, we were able to travel with a group of 40 clients from Chile, Argentina, and Colombia. For nearly 10 years, Wegolf has been taking golfers from all over Latin America to The Players, while also playing the best golf courses in the Jacksonville, Florida area.
Of course, we will return in 2022. We look forward to seeing you there! For more information on the 2022 program, you can visit We.golf/Players.
