Royal Portrush will host the Open again in 2025
Previously, Royal Portrush had to wait 68 years to host the Open Championship again. This time the delay will not be so long since the R&A announced that the Northern Irish club will host the last Major of the year in 2025.
Prior to 2019, the Open had last been played there in 1951. Many years had passed, and the emergence of Irish players such as Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, and Graeme McDowell was a fundamental reason for the championship to return to the Emerald Isle.
The edition held in 2019, with Shane Lowry’s victory, was so successful that there will only be a six-year wait before the Claret Jug is handed to the Open champion at Royal Portrush. "We could not be more excited about returning to Royal Portrush in 2025," said Martin Slumbers, chief executive of the R&A.
Royal Portrush is one of the best courses in Northern Ireland along with Royal County Down and Lough Erne. For more information about the destination, enter the section below.
