Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club

Opened in 1886, this course has more than 200 bunkers, firm fairways and some of the most demanding greens in the Open Rota. It's not your typical link as it's not right on the sea and it doesn't have those huge dunes bordering fairways, but it has all the tradition one would expect from a UK course. It has some blind shots (not many) and the great challenge of getting around the cross bunkers from the tee, perhaps the most difficult part.

Royal Liverpool Golf Club

Hoylake was created to be (and still is) a demanding test of golf, and lies at the very heart of the history and development of golf in Britain. Built in 1869, on what was then the Liverpool Hunt Club racetrack, Royal Liverpool is the second oldest links course in England behind Royal North Devon. It dates back to 1869 and was the site of 11 British Opens, the last one in 2014 brilliantly won by Rory McIlroy.

Royal Birkdale

• This spectacular course is a tough golf test with no ocean views but great slopes and challenging sand dunes on both sides. It is one of the clubs in the rotation for both the Open Championship and Women's British Open and it has hosted the Open Championship ten times from 1954 through 2017.
• Winners of the Open at the course include Pádraig Harrington, and Jordan Spieth who defeated Matt Kuchar with his unforgettable shot passing the trucks in the Driving Range.

Prestwick Golf Club

• Prestwick is the birthplace of the Open Championship, where an old cottage would become the clubhouse being the legendary Old Tom Morris its the greenkeeper. The original layout had only 12 holes. It has hosted 24 Open Championships and it runs one short compared to the Old Course St. Andrews. The course embodies Scottish golf tradition, with holes that wind around hills, fairways with unnoticeable bunkers, several blind shots and very small and difficult greens.

Royal Troon (Old Course)

• The Royal Troon Old course has hosted multiple editions of the Open and witnessed golfing moments like the famous duel of 2016 where Stenson prevailed over Mickleson. It is a classic Scottish links layout and tough design with championship greens. The course features the shortest hole in Open history: "The Postage Stamp” with a pitching and putting surface skimmed down to minimal size (hole 8), and only 126 yards long.

Ailsa Turnberry

• Home to four Open editions, Ailsa has shaped some of the most remarkable moments like the “Duel in the Sun” between Watson and Nicklaus in 1977; this typical links course has the most impressive 9 consecutive holes set alongside the Ayrshire coastline. Redesigned by Martin Ebert in 2014, the course has been completely restored and revamped and is now part of Trump Turnberry. It is considered the best Golf Resort in Scotland, featuring beautiful views of Ailsa Craig (the huge rock that rises from the sea) and on the 9th the picture perfect remains of Robert the Bruce’s lighthouse and castle.

St Andrews Links - New Course

• The New Course, known as the “oldest new course in the world”, was opened in 1895 and designed by the great Old Tom Morris. Its layout is extraordinary, more difficult than its brother "Old" and its layout -according to the old tradition- goes away in the first 9 holes, to then start the "return home". Overshadowed by its more famous sibling, if it were located anywhere else in the country it would surely host The Open.

The Carnoustie Championship Golf Links

• Considered the most difficult stop at The Open Rota, it is an extreme challenge from 1 to 18, and from tee to green. It is a route that demands concentration and a lot of patience, because disaster is always lurking (just remember Van de Velde in 1999).
• It is a typical Scottish links despite the fact that the sea is not visible (it is 500m away), and it has the most difficult finish (16-17-18) in the British Isles. Its 18th hole, crossed by the meandering Barry Burn, with a headwind, has driven the best pros in history crazy.
