Golf
St Andrews Links - Jubilee Course
- The Jubilee Course was designed by the great Old Tom Morris and the last of the original courses, owing its name to the celebration of the queen of England. It is an extraordinary golf course, with the layout of the old tradition (the first 9 holes away from the Club House and the second 9 "coming home"). It is even more difficult than its neighbors the Old and New, having on its left the beach where “Charriots of Fire” was filmed.
Dumbarnie Golf Links
The contemporary design by Clive Clark features panoramic views of the Bay of Forth, holes that call for strategic decisions, and a lot of variety. The course, laid out on a flat surface, recreates dunes, undulations, and elevation changes to add diversity to the design and give the impression that it has always been there. Wide fairways, greens with plenty of movement, and bunkers for all tastes: pot bunkers, waste areas, and others of irregular shape.
Kingsbarns Golf Links
- This modern course is a Kyle Phillips masterpiece and considered one of the best links courses in the world. On an impressive plot of land that constantly overlooks the sea and the bay of St. Andrews, the club offers all the facilities at a 5-star level.
- It is a very playable course for everyone from the right tee, and it features lots of creative shots that make it a lot of fun, especially its 4 par 3s for beauty and challenge. It has hosted the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
The Carnoustie Championship Golf Links
- Considered the most difficult stop at The Open Rota, it is an extreme challenge from 1 to 18, and from tee to green. It is a route that demands concentration and a lot of patience, because disaster is always lurking (just remember Van de Velde in 1999).
- It is a typical Scottish links despite the fact that the sea is not visible (it is 500m away), and it has the most difficult finish (16-17-18) in the British Isles. Its 18th hole, crossed by the meandering Barry Burn, with a headwind, has driven the best pros in history crazy.
Accommodation
Fairmont St. Andrews Hotel
- This 5-star hotel is perched on cliffs overlooking St Andrews Bay. It has free parking, free Wi-Fi connection, spa and swimming pool. The Fairmont St Andrews offers a number of dining options, including La Cucina Italian Restaurant, Squire's Restaurant and the Social Club, which overlooks the medieval town of St Andrews. This resort features 2 world-class golf courses (The Torrance and The Kittocks) and a spa with a state-of-the-art fitness center, 50-foot pool, steam room, sauna and hot tub.
Past editions
Paco Alemán Escocia 2024
In the week leading up to the 152nd Open at Royal Troon, the first edition of the Paco Alemán Scotland trip took place. Eleven Wegolfers, along with Paco Alemán, returned to the origins of golf: St. Andrews, playing a tournament on various courses and ending at Carnoustie. Did any of them finish with a birdie on the 18th?
Other things to do
Welcome to the land of Harry Potter: the beautiful and picturesque St Andrews is a wonderful town to explore. The Home of Golf is also home to collection of historic sights to see, excellent shopping, fine dining and of course famous pubs. Visit its cemetery, walk through its narrow stone streets and visit its famous university (one of the oldest in the world). In addition, you may want to take a day trip to visit Crail, the adjoining fishing village that offers very good cuisine.
