Description

On the coastal strait of Ayrshire, the Western Gailes course develops between the railway tracks and the sea. Designed by different people throughout its history, the course has the traditional layout of 9 holes that go, and 9 that return. Tough test for every golfer, and in particular when the west wind blows and makes it a fierce challenge.

Signature Hole

Hole 12 is a par 4 of 436 yards, in which the tee shot must be played diagonally towards the fairway, risking in each case according to its distance. The green is guarded on its left and right front by two pot bunkers, and behind by the wild rough.

Wegolf Insider Tip

If weather allows, the sunset over the Firth of Clyde can be a captivating moment.

The good, The Bad

In the shadow of other more renowned courses, Western Gailes deserves to be included in any trip to Scotland.
Patience is needed, since it is a course that can sometimes penalize even a good shot.
