Description
Ten Irishmen known as "The Syndicate" founded the club in 1890 and needed a ferry to reach the old club house, located next to the current 13th hole and remembered with a carved stone commemorating this. This union managed the club until 1950, when it began to admit members. It is as natural as one can imagine, on a peninsular terrain surrounded by water and with dunes sometimes as high as Royal Birkdale. It's not clear who designed it, though it was reviewed by Fred Hawtree, Eddie Hackett and Jeff Howes to this terrific today for 71 of 6,903 yards.
Signature Hole
12th hole / Par 4 / 447yds "Valhalla"
What better name could you give it? Taming this it is for a few, almost 450 yds usually headwind to an elevated green and where the tee shot if it is not on the fairway is bogey for sure. Dogleg left with the green almost against the channel. It offers the best views of the court and the water that had to be crossed when you came to play by boat, until 1973!!

It can be classified as a "must" on a trip to Ireland. Holes of varied length, reachable par 4, long and short par 5, a brutal hole 13 and greens of impeccable quality. If there is a trip to Ireland, The Island cannot be missed!!
