Description
Although Watson did not focus on his career as a golf course designer, Spanish Bay is one of his creations and where he applied all his knowledge of Scottish courses, with some Augusta-style forest on the holes. Spanish Bay is not only a great golf course, it has a very high quality Resort with many of its rooms facing the sea on holes 18 and 1, it is worth staying there. Every afternoon towards the end of the day the Piper walks around holes 1-2-18 to close out the day in the old Scottish tradition, as Turnberry also does in Scotland.
Signature Hole
Hole 14 / Par 5 / 576 yds.:
Spanish Bay has many very good holes, some against the sea and others inside the forest where one can find deer walking through the fairways. The 14th is a great hole, with its elevated tee towards the sea and the entire hole descending to the green, very well protected and close to the sea. It can be reached in 2, but it is imperative not to miss on the right since the ball can be lost. Spanish Bay is a "hidden" course behind Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill, but it is an extraordinary golf course.Wegolf Insider Tip
Wegolf played this course for the first time in 2011 during the IAGTO North American Convention, where a tournament was played for the more than 50 operators who attended the convention. It was an enormous experience, since we were able to fully appreciate the highest quality of service and a course in impeccable condition. It is links style with American soil, so one can find a good lie almost always. It is important to choose the set of tees according to the handicap, since making a mistake in this choice can turn a good day into torture for a high handicap.
