Description
Obviously Pinehurst No. 2 draws most of the attention from Ross historians wandering North Carolina, but it was not actually the first nine created by the iconic architect in the state. Although the front nine at Pinehurst was indeed Ross’s first design, he actually completed the full 18 at Southern Pines a year before completing the full route at No. 2. At just under 6354 yards from the Blue Tees, Southern Pines is not a long course but is tougher than the yardage due to many elevation changes and tricky greenside surroundings. This is an extremely fun course where golfers of all ability will be able to enjoy it.
Signature Hole
6th hole | 425 yards | par 4 this hole is the longest two shotter on the course. However, if you get near the the green in two, you may not be able to get down in two. The challenge of this hole, following the easier fifth hole is great example of the classic give and take Ross provides in his designs.
Wegolf Insider Tip
With a rudimentary, modest clubhouse and tiny range and practice green, Southern Pines maintains its laid back, municipal feel. The leve lof service in the proshop and the bar are excellent.
