Description

Royal Troon has two golf courses: Old and Portland, being Old the most famous of them both, having hosted the Open Championship several times. A classic Scottish layout, where holes 1 to 9 go out to the course, and holes 10 to 18 come back to the club house. A tight course, difficult, and greens with excellent maintenance all year round. This course has the shortest hole in the history of the Open Championship: the par 3 8th hole, the “Postage Stamp”, of only126 yards. Playing Royal Troon is a unique experience.

Signature Hole

Without a doubt, the par 3 8th hole, with only 126 yards, the renowned “Postage Stamp”, a masterpiece of only 126 yards, where missing the green means a bogey, or worse. The green complex is very small and with a lot of movement, scoring a 3 in this hole means a lot more than a simple par. A funny story involving the great Gene Sarazen in this hole, that at his 73 years of age, he travelled to play the Open Championship in Royal Troon, and scored 1-2 in the two rounds he played. He named this hole: "This looks like a Postage Stamp!"

Wegolf Insider Tip

Royal Troon offers to play both courses on the same day, an interesting possibility for those who dare. The club house is a luxury, you have a very good lunch and the proshop is very varied and with articles of all kinds. Wegolf played it several times and with diametrically opposite winds, it seems that one is playing another course. Lap 10-18 headwind (except 12) is usually very complicated.

The good, The Bad

The green fee includes a round in Portland. The best greens in Scotland.
Very hard to get a tee time.
