Description

Opened in 1886, it is the northernmost course in the Open rotation in England. It has more than 200 bunkers, firm fairways and extremely demanding greens. And in addition, it is below sea level, which made it necessary to have a great deal of work to achieve an effective drainage system. It is not a typical links since it is not attached to the sea nor does it have those immense dunes bordering fairways. Its club house and dorms are a trademark, and spending a night there will be unforgettable. Demanding layout, ideal for players who like to measure themselves in the most difficult tests.

Signature Hole

Hole 17 / par 4 / 467 yards In 1926 the great Robert Tire Jones Jr won the Open here and that is why this great par 4 bears his name. Long, dog leg to the left and with a truncated fairway interrupted by a sandy area with rough (as in Merion's 16). If the wind blows against it, it is a par 5.

Wegolf Insider Tip

Wegolfers have been coming to play at Royal Lytham for over 10 years. Play there, walk around and enjoy the club house with references to Jones and Seve everywhere, have a gin and tonic in the members lounge, use the huge putting green, take photos, dine under the image of the Queen and spend the night at the Dormie House. UNFORGETTABLE. As much as the course is almost as demanding as Carnoustie, with lots of blind shots and bunkers that will cost at least one shot, it's definitely worth it.

The good, The Bad

Its golf course, from 1 to 18, is wonderful. Variety, demand and quality. He has well earned his fame.
Starting with a par 3 is difficult, but after going to the driving range it is not a problem to hit a 5-iron as the first shot.
