Description

The story goes that the owner brought Pete Dye to La Quinta after his success on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass to build the toughest course in the West and he did it. Nicklaus gave the Resort an excellent course, a little less complicated than the Stadium, but fulfilling the goals of providing good golf and room for Real Estate. La Quinta Resort has 5 courses: Norman, Mountains, Dunes, Nicklaus and Stadium, plus a couple of private courses. The Nicklaus Course is possibly the most fun course for medium and high handicaps of the 5 that the Resort has.

Signature Hole

18th Hole / Par 4 / 453 yards: "Bear Trap"

A monster like final hole. Long, with a key tee shot to have on the fairway and a second shot to fly a gap to a green not so big and very well surrounded on the other side with bunkers. One of the best final holes we had to play.

Wegolf Insider Tip

The course is much less intimidating than the Stadium Course, however it is a lot of fun and is usually so well maintained that it is almost on par with its neighboring course. Very fast greens and the Nicklaus brand in every detail.

The good, The Bad

A very good design, fun to play and with several holes where taking risks is worth it.
It is somewhat overshadowed by its famous neighbor, but it is a course worth playing without a doubt.
