Description
Opened in 1927 and designed by the prominent English Boomer brothers (Percy and Aubrey), it is the only 100% British links track without trees and right on the sea. Here the constant winds harden the ground, and its fearsome rough together with the bunkers (many hidden) make up the main defense of the course. Its beautiful Club House has two galleries, the north open one pointing to the then hole 9 (today 18) and the southeast gallery, which pointed to the Atlantic Ocean and the 18th green (today route 11).
Signature Hole
Hole 17, the "Volcano", is one of the most unique holes on the course. It is a short par 4 of 379 straight, but with a green that has two extreme platforms of more than 2m height difference. Missing the flag platform means 3 automatic putts. We have seen all kinds of unusual shots in order to leave the ball near the hole.
Wegolf Insider Tip
From the 18 tees, you can see the sea. Roberto de Vicenzo settled in Miramar to train his golf before participating in The Open. The flat, indefinite views from the tee is something it shares with Royal Liverpool Golf Club (Hoylake), where Roberto won the Open in 1967.
