Description

This Hugh Wilson’s design was opened in 1896. You can play it in normal conditions and you’ll notice that it is a big challenge, a tournament prepared course, where the difficulty raises quickly. What does define Merion East as an extraordinary golf course? It’s history, it hosted the world known Bobby Jone’s Grand Slam. That you need all your strategy and shots to play it. It’s greens are considered the most difficult in USA golf. It doesn’t need nor the ocean nor a beautiful landscape to show why it’s consider one of the 10 best courses in USA.

Signature Hole

Merion has 18 extraordinary holes, but the last hole is its signature. This brutal par 4 has one of the most difficult second shots, because of its length and its difficulty to put the ball in the green.

Wegolf Insider Tip

As soon as you arrive you’ll see the short par 3 that cost Mickelson the US Open, then you’ll go all the way through the Club House, with Bobby Jones memories everywhere. Every hole is special, but there are two highlights: the 11th, where Bobby Jones won the Grand Slam (there's a sign that remembers it) and the 18th with the Ben Hogan’s Iron 1 in 1950 (there’s a sign too). In the end, to have lunch in the Club House’s terrace next to the 1st tee completes an unforgettable golf day.
