Description
In 2015 it was announced that Marco Simone would host the Ryder Cup in 2023. This course outside of Rome became the third course in continental Europe to host the most important team competition, after Valderrama (1997) and Le Golf National. (2018). Opened in 1989, after the announcement the course was redesigned by European Tour Design to have the standards of a Ryder Cup course.
Signature Hole
The 16th hole is a short par 4 where long hitters can reach the green with the driver. It is a typical risk-reward hole. There is a hazard to the right of the green. A good drive can give you the chance of having an eagle putt. The more cautious will play an iron before the hazard and then have an approach to the green of around 100 yards.
Wegolf Insider Tip
The course itself is very good and you can see the -very good- changes that European Tour Design has made for the Ryder Cup. It has a very attractive variety of holes and a lot of movement. Something to note is that the 4 par 3's, the greens are downhill in relation to the tee which allows a better perspective to hit the green. The final 3 holes are very attractive. It is a challenging course for the good player and friendly for the high handicap starting, of course, from the tees according to the level of play.
