Description
Hillside Golf Club is located in Southport, an area regarded as 'England's Golf Coast' just 1 hour from Liverpool City Centre. The 7000 yard course is dotted with magnificent sand hills and stunning pinewoods. The original Hillside course was founded in 1911 but its layout has altered significantly since then, after acquiring land in 1960s it was extensively remodeled. The overall layout of the course is balanced in two halves. It was the back nine holes that saw major changes, whereas the front line had always been highly regarded and plays over relatively flat ground.
Signature Hole
The 11th hole, a par 5 of 509 yards from the back tees, a reachable par 5 that doglegs left, the elevated tees provides a panoramic view of the hole in play and other holes too, not only of the Hillside Golf Club course, but also Royal Birkdale and Southport & Ainsdale. A well struck drive to the dune-flanked fairway will tempt the big hitters to go for the raised green in two shots, but watch out for the cavernous bunker lurking on the right.
Wegolf Insider Tip
Possibly the second 9 holes are the best in England. It's a great course to combine on a trip to play all 3 Royals (Liverpool, Birkdale and Lytham & St Annes).
