Description
Open in 1947 on a dune-filled land facing the sea, Ballyliffin stands out for not having been built but just cutting the grass, contouring the greens and putting in the bunkers. Eddie Hackett, Charles Lawrie and Frank Pennick in 1973 gave it some tweaks to transform a good course into a very nice link, which later Faldo in 1993 improved by redesigning all the bunkers. With a luxury hotel and its sister "Glashedy", this place offers one of those golf experiences that the player never regrets and never forgets.
Signature Hole
Hole 3 / Par 4 / 383 yds.
A very nice slightly downhill hole facing the sea with Glashedy Rock in the foreground. It usually plays downwind so the very long hitters can get it very close to the green. The approach shot to the elevated green is usually not easy.
Wegolf Insider Tip
It is a natural course, which was not built and to which the only thing that has been done since 1947 was to rebuild the bunkers through Nick Faldo. Even so, it has many very good holes and with the usual wind it is a great challenge. The first leg is a little less complicated, but from the 12th it gets rough and the end is very demanding. Is it a "must" in Ireland? Yes, you have to play the 36 holes of this Resort and also be able to enjoy the enormous differences between the 2 courses.
