Description
Arglass Golf Club was formed in 1896 when 7 beautiful holes were opened. It was only in 1970 that the course had 18 holes, very well maintained and with championship speed greens. When the Club turned 100 years old the original 5-6s were removed to create that spectacular run from 9 to 11, also ceasing to use the short par 3 of 17 that is still there and is used in winter. The first few holes at the edge of the cliffs are truly supremely beautiful and not easy at all. Although not long, they are intimidating because of what one sees on the left side.
Signature Hole
Hole 12 / Par 3 / 198 yds.
A monster. Elevated tee, gorse on the left side and the sea on the right side and in the background. The height difference makes it difficult to calculate the correct club. The landscape it shows is the best place on the course, seeing the entire spectacular 11th hole from above the green.
Wegolf Insider Tip
While it is true that Royal County Down is a course to repeat when taking a golf trip to Ireland, not playing Ardglass would be a mistake when planning your trip. The course has a fabulous first 5 holes and then a 9-13 run. The 13th century Club House and its very good restaurant complete a day of unmissable golf.
